Republican Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas introduced a bill in the U.S. congress that would force internet service providers and companies like Google to store records of your IP address for 18 months to help the police in potential child porn cases. This means every person using the internet gets treated like a potential child pornographer. This would be pure bliss not only to cops and their holy war on drugs, but anyone who might later want to uncover your internet activities, like the music & film industry or people mad about mean comments you left about them on YouTube.

A similar bill in the European Union that forces internet providers to store data about the web activities of its users for 6 months will hopefully fall again soon. It was struck down by the constitutional courts in Germany, Romania and the Czech Republic. Sweden rather pays millions of Euros in fines than implementing the controversial law.
