Yahoo pretty much managed to drive every single company they acquired into the ground. Tumblr is no exception. After the site banned nudity in December to attract more advertisers, the platform’s traffic crashed in record time. Now Tumblr is allegedly up for sale. If only someone would have told Yahoo that advertisers don’t particular care for sites with no users.
And according to BuzzFeed there’s at least one party that’s very much interested in buying it: PornHub. If this sale actually happens this would of course mean a complete 180° on Tumblr’s stance on nudity seeing how PornHub is all about spreading, well, porn.
PornHub Vice President Corey Price told BuzzFeed: “Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included. We’ve long been dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities on the platform, leaving many individuals without an asylum through which they could comfortably peruse adult content.”
Tumblr was sold to Yahoo for $1.1 billion in 2013. Yahoo then was bought up by Verizon. But by 2016, Yahoo had written down the blogging platform’s value by $230 million. With the massive exodus of angry users after the nudity ban, the site would probably cost a lot less nowadays.
