Tommen “Can’t hug every cat” Baratheon
The Hand of the King by Nicholas Patrick
Tommen, first of his name, King of Andals, the Rhoyar and the First Men, Defender of the Faith and Lord Protector of the Seven Kingdoms perched anxiously upon the Iron Throne. His herald stepped forward preparing to announce his first and only appointment at court for the day.
“Ser Loras Tyrell of Higharden,” the herald barked before resuming his hovering position to the left and slightly behind the chair forged of 1000 swords (or like 200 if you just watch the show). Loras entered looking slightly confused. He couldn’t remember how he had ended up back at court.
“Your Grace,” he said hoping to find out just what was going on. “Why have I been summoned? The last thing I remember was either being horribly burned at the siege of Dragonstone or locked up by the Faith Militant on false allegations.” The King stood.
“My good Ser Loras, we’re in the show’s version of events. I am the super cute 17 year old Tommen who loves boning your sister, not the affable 6 year old who plays with cats from the books.”
Somehow that made sense as all the courtiers turned and nodded agreement to each other. But that only half answered why the heir (or 3rd son, depending on your perspective) to Highgarden was summoned by his brother by law. Tommen began to clarify for him.
“You see, I have been unable to secure the release of your sister, the Queen or my mother, the Queen, but the High Sparrow told me I could have another Queen of sorts.”
The assembled crowd let out a hushed round of laughter that ended when the herald pounded his staff on the stone floor. “I don’t understand your Grace… What is going on?” the Knight of the Flowers inquired.
“On the condition that you accept 7 punishments for your crimes (crimes which for the record, I’m totally ok with; It’s just religion, you know) you will be released into my custody where I plan to name you the Hand of the King,” Tommen declared causing murmurs to rise up from the lords and ladies inside Maegor’s Holdfast.
Loras was relieved and afraid all at the same time. He just had two more questions for his King. “Thank you my King,” he began. “I am forever in your debt. But I wonder, what are these 7 punishments, and which Loras Tyrell am I again? The late teen, lithe and agile but surprisingly strong Loras from the books, or the beefcake mid 20s Loras from the show…” his voice trailed off.

When no Bathroom is right
A transgender boy was suspended from his high school in South Carolina for using the boys’ restroom — after being told that he can’t use the girls’ bathroom either.
He used to use the girls’ bathroom when he started his transition but that prompted complaints about a boy being in the girls’ bathroom. So the school allowed him to use the boys’ restroom for the following three years of middle-school without anyone raising an eyebrow.
This changed though when he started High School and was seen by a teacher using the same bathroom. “He must’ve looked at his records and saw the sex on his records because that’s the only way he could’ve known,” the student’s mother said. The next day, the boy was called in by administrators and told he must use the girls’ bathroom or go to the nurse’s office.
“If he started using the girl’s bathroom in 12th grade, it’s going to create a problem. I felt like that would be dangerous,” his mom said. “The nurse’s office is downstairs on the first floor of the school and the school has three stories.”
The boy was holding it, which his mother worried was unhealthy. So she told him to keep doing what he had been all along and use the boys’ bathroom. After the student was seen by teachers using the boys’ bathroom about 2 weeks ago, he was suspended. “They did not give me a copy of the write up,” his mother told the station. “They did not talk to me.”
The student’s mother enrolled him in an online school, but it means the student is missing out on all the activities he was involved in, including having to drop out of a school play.
“Let the transgender kids be themselves,” she told the station. “Let them be safe and let them be comfortable. Let them have their education in an environment where they are not harassed or felt to be unsafe.”
No explanation was given as to why the teacher was in the students’ restroom. The mother said she received an email from the Department of Education, which seemed to indicate the school was in the wrong
Why gendered bathrooms are a thing to begin with? Who knows. But this boy, and many like him, certainly know what it feels like to not belong.

Reckless
Reckless is set in the Scandinavian suburbs during the hottest summer day. It narrates an episode in the life of two siblings. Sofia is a beautiful blonde 15 year old girl and Mads is her little brother. When their parents decide to spend a weekend away, the girl is asked to baby-sit her brother – a task she seems reluctant to execute, so she takes him to the swimming pool. Here, she meets two boys that try to hit on her. Their interest is returned, and she leaves the child to himself, without thinking of the consequences.
It is clear that we are faced with a softly controversial film whose plot moves on two connected wires, where eroticism and social drama are interwoven, in a blurred line between a casual incident and recklessness. On one side, the man focus for Sorensen seems to be softly pushing the magnet of attraction until it reaches the sexual encounter between the teenagers: everything seems to happen with a certain naturalness. He gradually moves towards the intimacy of sex until he reaches a ménage à trois free from every morbidity, respecting the (surprising) innocence of these teens without indulging in an indiscreet gaze. The erotic charge is preserved in its spontaneity, which is not easy to accomplish.
The other strand is linked to the dramatic component that derives from Sofia’s failure to take care of her little brother, a task that her parents gave her perhaps without giving it too much thought.
Even if it would have elements to work on, Reckless does not attempt to engage in a specific discourse, but only wants to suggest something, leaving its message open, impressed on the “skin” of its characters. Several elements hint in this direction: the warmth of the light on the bodies, the cinematography that employs warm tones, the cream smeared on the body, the first physical contact, the water that glides on the bodies in the shower, the drop of blood that falls from Mads’ face. The viewer is left with a feeling of insolvency, taken by a double spiral of dizziness, the erotic charge of love and the violence of Mads’ drama. If the former is vented, the latter is there, suspended, waiting to be let out.
